Students will be guided to edit their own European web radio program (called Schools across Europe via Web Radio) using the English language as an international contact and communication code, reaffirming the supranational European dimension. They will learn how a radio space can become the place for describing real life stories, exposing and reporting them, indeed a useful instrument for fighting bullying, cyberbullying, racism, vandalism and gender violence.
Introduce the following topics in classes and brainstorm them to involve students as much as possible, then give them more information and/or ideas if you think they need them:
– 1 cyberbullying and bullying
– 2 vandalism
– 3 citizenship and European citizenship
– 4 Erasmus+ projects
– 5 racism and gender violence (to be done at a later date)
– 6 social inclusion
– 7 other suggested topics (to be communicated to all partners)
When you think students have enough information on the topics (do one topic at a time) divide students into groups of four or five.
– One student in each group pretends he is a radio presenter and asks the other students, one at a time, what they think about each topic. Students write down the conversations in a notebook, then they will need to write them neatly using acomputer. The conversations should look like real interviews.
Each interview should last about five minutes
– Students can also describe real life stories they have experienced or personally heard about regarding cyberbullying, bullying, racism, vandalism or gender violence in the interviews.
– Ask students to choose music/songs to interval the various parts of the interview. They must bring the music file/files for each interval.
– Choose one or two of the best interviews and get students to record them while reading. Don’t forget to interval the interviews with music. Instead, during the mobilities in Italy students will be taken to a dedicated radio space inside our school.
